It's almost spring time here in the Hudson Valley of NY!

That means, it's almost time to choose the outfits for your for your floral-filled family photos.

Ok ok, picking out outfits for yourself, your spouse AND your little ones can be challenging.

From coordinate colors, patterns and textures, AND making sure its comfortable, that can be a little bit stressful, am I right?! Picking matching outfits or letting everyone choose what they're comfortable in, isn’t the way to go.

It might take a bit more time and effort, but TRUST me. When you carefully plan out your family session outfits, you’ll be amazed at how much more classic and high-end your photos will become.

Now you might be thinking: “Danielle, how does something as simple as choosing outfits make a photo look more high-end?”

Let me explain, coordinating the right outfits together will instantly make your photos look TIMELESS. This is SO valuable because remember, we aren't just taking photos. We're preserving a part of your family legacy- something I DON’T take lightly : )

To help you along the way and get you started, I've compiled a few of my favorite outfit combinations from past Spring family sessions. Use these photos as a way to see how families have chosen to combine different colors, patterns and textures to inspire your next session!

Just one last thing! I have just a few tips that will help make choosing outfits a little less stressful!

3 Rules to follow when choosing outfits for your next photo session:

1. Choose coordinating colors. Instead of matchy-matchy, think of colors that compliment each other instead. Say goodbye to the days where everyone has to wear the exact same outfits! Picking colors that blend well together will ensure you have a cohesive look in your photos!

2. Pick 1-2 patterns. A general rule I like to follow is to have more solid colors than patterns. Here's a couple examples:

  • Family of 3 = Two family members with solids colors and one family member with a pattern.
  • Family of 5 = Three family members with solid colors and two family members with patterns.

This will ensure when we're doing different family member combinations, that two patterns don't clash and make the photos feel too busy!

3. Add texture and layers. Texture is a great way to add variety and break up a color pallet without adding another pattern!

Texture ideas: Lace, ruffles, corduroy, waffle or ribbed textures.

Layer ideas: A vest, kimono, sweaters or a blazer.
