One of the biggest questions I get from clients is, “What’s your photography style?” and one of the BIGGEST questions you should ask yourself BEFORE booking a photographer is “Am I totally loving their style of photography?”

Why is this so important?

It’s because there’s so many different editing styles out there from dark and moody, bright and bold to true color, film to light and airy just to name a few. All of these styles are amazing, one of them isn’t better than the other. We all just have our own preferences and each photographer (myself included) displays the work on their website that they are BEST at. Photographers we also won’t change their edits to reflect a style we’re not pros in.

So that means once you choose a photographer, you're also choosing their style of photography.

There's SO much that goes into delivering a final image. We all want to serve our clients the BEST we can and we can't do that by trying to deliver a style of photography that we don't specialize in.

Today I’m here to chat with you about what YOU can expect from me when it comes to my photography style.

My Style

I am a light and airy, natural light photographer. I love all things light and bright! This style is timeless and classic since it mimics the look of film photography. Light and airy editing totally makes my heart swoon.

3 Ways I Achieve My Style

  1. Outfits
  2. Location + light
  3. Editing

Let's Dive A Little Deeper!

1. Outfits

When we begin planning your session, I’ll send over my DLP Experience Guide. That guide contains everything you need to know to prep for your session including choosing your outfits! We start with choosing outfits that are lighter in color.

Think neutrals. Beige, whites, light tans, pastel colors. Those kinds of colors will be a BIG help when it comes to making a photo light and airy. Why? Because YOU are the main focus of your photos. People’s eyes will be drawn to YOU. If you’re wearing darker clothes, that will decrease the light + airy feel of your photos.

2.Location + light

When we arrive at a location I like to choose light-colored backgrounds to give a more airy feel to my images. This can be a light-colored wall on a cute building, an open field, light-colored trees (I try to stay clear of pine trees + boxwood trees!).

When you pick a dark background, it automatically makes your photo look darker. I also like to make sure the background we choose isn’t too distracting. That ensures the focus stay on YOU and not everything around you.

Lighting also determines a lot of what your final photo will look like. When choosing a location I'm also paying attention to how the light is looking in a particular spot to ensure I'll have the light + airy look that I love!

3.Editing

After the session comes the magic part! When editing your sessions I ALWAYS edit them to reflect my light + airy style by lightening the shadows and brightening up each image. That’s why it’s SUPER important you’re LOVING my style to ensure we’re the PERFECT fit!

When you invest in photography, these photos are images you’re going to be displaying in your home, sharing with family and friends and cherishing forever. You wanna make sure you’re completely in love with the way that photographer captures + edits their photos. If your vision for your session isn’t matching up the the photos on their website then they might not be right fit for you and that’s OK!
